Dear MES5 Families, We have been hard at work putting together a brand new educational program for your children! We are grateful for your patience as we design and plan everything that's going into this. Please know that we understand all the change that your child has already experienced this past year and would greatly appreciate your support helping us frame these new changes in a positive light. We're excited for the next ten weeks of school with our 5th graders! Let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks so very much, Julie & Brian
Three of our groups will be meeting in-person, in the morning or in the afternoon, and one will be online in the afternoon. Start Time & Routines WHEN: School will begin at 8:00 am starting tomorrow, Thursday, April 1st. (No, this is not an April Fools joke.) We have all grown accustomed to getting online from home at 8:30 so we'd recommend that you help prepare your child for an earlier wake-up. WHAT: Families must complete the daily health screening each day that your child attends school in person. Just like with Outdoor Learning, you will receive an email from Seattle Public Schools every morning before 7:00am, asking you to attest to your child's health and any possible known exposures. Important: Students are not listed on our roster of daily health-screened students will not be allowed to enter the building. They will be taken to a designated place on the playground where someone will contact you. WHERE: Each grade band has a designated entry point for school. Fifth graders line up with their cohort at the south door to the school on West McGraw Street. We'll meet them there to bring them into the building for the day's lessons and activities. Online Time & Wednesdays Students will have both synchronous and asynchronous activities when they are not in class. They will continue to meet with Mr. Wakefield for Art, Coach Skoog for PE, and Abby for library each week. They will also have to time to work on the assignments that we provide (Zearn, AoW, independent daily reading, etc.). We will all be online on Wednesdays, when we'll continue with Roots of Empathy, Reading Buddies, and Philosophy. There will also be asynchronous Art and PE activities to get students students moving and thinking creatively. Note: We're keeping our Plato and Hypatia groups for Philosophy and will also be using them for Reading Buddies. On Wednesdays, one group will have Reading Buddies with Mr. Anderson's 2nd graders, and the other will have Philosophy with Dr. Jana Mohr Lone, alternating each week (Week A & B). Here are the only things students need to bring to school:
We'd like students to also bring these items to school next week:
*Please be sure to label all items with your child's name.

Wow thank you so much for all the planning that has gone into this so far! I’m hopeful for a smooth transition for all our kids thanks to your hard work! Quick question - do we have to fill out the covid legal agreement sent by Michelle again or if we filled it out for outdoor learning it should be ok?
