These classes are all virtual and CC has a pay-what-you-can fee structure. She also told us about a super cool three year opportunity available for 5th graders that identify as a creative person: https://coyotecentral.org/cre8 Spring Recruiting Video from Coyote Central on Vimeo.

Dear MES5 Families, We have been hard at work putting together a brand new educational program for your children! We are grateful for your patience as we design and plan everything that's going into this. Please know that we understand all the change that your child has already experienced this past year and would greatly appreciate your support helping us frame these new changes in a positive light. We're excited for the next ten weeks of school with our 5th graders! Let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks so very much, Julie & Brian
Three of our groups will be meeting in-person, in the morning or in the afternoon, and one will be online in the afternoon. Start Time & Routines WHEN: School will begin at 8:00 am starting tomorrow, Thursday, April 1st. (No, this is not an April Fools joke.) We have all grown accustomed to getting online from home at 8:30 so we'd recommend that you help prepare your child for an earlier wake-up. WHAT: Families must complete the daily health screening each day that your child attends school in person. Just like with Outdoor Learning, you will receive an email from Seattle Public Schools every morning before 7:00am, asking you to attest to your child's health and any possible known exposures. Important: Students are not listed on our roster of daily health-screened students will not be allowed to enter the building. They will be taken to a designated place on the playground where someone will contact you. WHERE: Each grade band has a designated entry point for school. Fifth graders line up with their cohort at the south door to the school on West McGraw Street. We'll meet them there to bring them into the building for the day's lessons and activities. Online Time & Wednesdays Students will have both synchronous and asynchronous activities when they are not in class. They will continue to meet with Mr. Wakefield for Art, Coach Skoog for PE, and Abby for library each week. They will also have to time to work on the assignments that we provide (Zearn, AoW, independent daily reading, etc.). We will all be online on Wednesdays, when we'll continue with Roots of Empathy, Reading Buddies, and Philosophy. There will also be asynchronous Art and PE activities to get students students moving and thinking creatively. Note: We're keeping our Plato and Hypatia groups for Philosophy and will also be using them for Reading Buddies. On Wednesdays, one group will have Reading Buddies with Mr. Anderson's 2nd graders, and the other will have Philosophy with Dr. Jana Mohr Lone, alternating each week (Week A & B). Click here for a PDF of Week A Wed. schedule with links Click here for a PDF of Week B Wed. schedule with links Materials & Supplies We will be giving each student their own set of school supplies that they will keep in a container at their desk. Here are the only things students need to bring to school:
We'd like students to also bring these items to school next week:
*Please be sure to label all items with your child's name. Dear 5th graders, Here are the activities we would like you to do on Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday of this week while we are preparing for hybrid learning (in-person/remote). We recommend making a plan for yourself for how you will manage your time in order to get everything done as a self-directed learner. For example, you might make yourself a three day checklist. Remember, we do not have Outdoor Learning on Monday, March 29. We do have Book Clubs on Tuesday, March 30 from 12:45-1:15 (link in your Teams calendar). Physical Education![]() Tolt got sprinkled on a bit toward the end of our Outdoor Learning session today, but all in all, we consider ourselves very fortunate to have had a lovely time learning outside today with both Cedar & Tolt. One of the activities we did was in our new Idea Books, generously given to us by the phenomenal non-profit writing center, the Bureau of Fearless Ideas (one of our field trip destinations last year). They were kind enough to give us Idea Books for every 5th grader*. *Please consider donating a few dollars to this awesome organization. They truly are making the world a better place with the way they encourage young people to tell their stories with creativity and authenticity. The forecast for tomorrow currently says there is a 70% chance of rain. If it is raining heavily we will cancel Outdoor Learning. If it is drizzling or not raining heavily we will be intrepid adventurers and enjoy the PNW day outside together. *We will notify Cedar families by 9:30am if we cancel due to weather, and Tolt families by 11:30am via Remind text. photos by Thomas Wong (Thank you, Thomas!)
This week marks one year since we last were together in school. Today was so special. It's as if the sun was shining for us. How lucky are we??
If you were unable to join us for the Outdoor Learning Parent Meeting last night, please view the recording.
A reminder: We MUST have a signed copy of the Covid Legal Agreement for In-Person Services in order for your child to participate in Outdoor Learning next Monday, March 8. Hard copies are available at the front entrance of the school. Your child can bring the signed form with them on Monday, or you can send us a photo/scan of it. Outdoor Learning Parent Meeting

Land Acknowledgment
We at Magnolia Elementary acknowledge that we are on the traditional land of the Coast Salish people including the Duwamish People past and present.
We honor with gratitude the land itself, and the Duwamish Tribe.
This acknowledgement does not take the place of authentic relationships with indigenous communities, but serves as a first step in honoring the land ON WHICH WE LEARN.
